چکیده

In this article we present a principled, four-phased approach to the development of legal knowledge systems. We set out from the well-studied CommonKADS method for the development of knowledge systems and tailor this method to the legal domain. In particular, we propose a generic legal ontology, and describe the creation of statutespeci"c ontologies to adopt the method for building legal systems. In the construction of these ontologies, we start from a theoretical analysis of the legal domain. The well-known example of the Imperial College Library Regulations (ICLR) is used to illustrate the method. ( 1999 Academic Press

Behavioral Considerations in Developing Web Information Systems: User-centered Design Agenda

The current paper explores designing a web information retrieval system regarding the searching behavior of users in real and everyday life. Designing an information system that is closely linked to human behavior is equally important for providers and the end users.  From an Information Science point of view, four approaches in designing information retrieval systems were identified as system-...

Implicit Assumptions in Legal Knowledge Systems

n this article we address the issue of implicit assumptions in legal knowledge systems (LKBS). We illustrate that LKBSs have many underlying assumptions mostly arising during the design process. We divide these implicit assumptions over three categories: (1) assumptions about the user, (2) assumptions about the task, and (3) assumptions about the domain. Making assumptions in the design of a LK...

Developing a BIM-based Spatial Ontology for Semantic Querying of 3D Property Information

With the growing dominance of complex and multi-level urban structures, current cadastral systems, which are often developed based on 2D representations, are not capable of providing unambiguous spatial information about urban properties. Therefore, the concept of 3D cadastre is proposed to support 3D digital representation of land and properties and facilitate the communication of legal owners...

LKIF Core: Principled Ontology Development for the Legal Domain

In this paper we describe a legal core ontology that is part of the Legal Knowledge Interchange Format: a knowledge representation formalism that enables the translation of legal knowledge bases written in different representation formats and formalisms. A legal (core) ontology can play an important role in the translation of existing legal knowledge bases to other representation formats, in pa...

Connections, Communication and Collaboration in Healthcare’s Complex Adaptive Systems; Comment on “Using Complexity and Network Concepts to Inform Healthcare Knowledge Translation”

A more sophisticated understanding of the unpredictable, disorderly and unstable aspects of healthcare organisations is developing in the knowledge translation (KT) literature. In an article published in this journal, Kitson et al introduced a new model for KT in healthcare based on complexity theory. The Knowledge Translation Complexity Network Model (KTCNM) provides a fresh perspective by mak...
